CHICAGO TO THE WORLD CONVENING THIS FRIDAY
One Day, One Room, a Global Conversation
This Friday, October 23, Chicago opens its doors to the world. Pigment International’s Chicago to the World convening brings together artists, curators, institutional leaders, and cultural stewards to ask how our city’s creative legacy can travel, and how the world can invest in it in return. The convening is the organization’s culminating event for Black Fine Art Month 2026.
Panelist for the morning keynote are Janice Bond, Chicago Public Art Group (CPAG); Pamela Cullerton, Chicago Sculpture Exhibit (CSE) and Jon Ott, Richard Hunt Legacy Foundation. The afternoon keynote features Kenya Merritt, Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) who will share the stage with Monique Brinkman Hill of the South Side Community Center (SSCAC) and Ra Joy of Milwaukee’s Bronzeville Center for the Arts. General panels will explore managing your art collection and take a deeper dive into the Illinois Arts Alliance report on the region’s creative economy and the implications for Black creatives.
Capping off the afternoon will be a special performance by A Film Called Black (Cam Be + Neak), a fusion of film, music, and Black cultural memory. Guests will be feted by CMB, helmed by chef Michael Bonner during the closing reception.
The day begins earlier on the South Side. Before the convening, the South Side Community Art Center host a beam raising at the organization’s home at 3831 S. Michigan Ave., a fundraiser for its Black Art Rising campaign. Come lift a beam, support a landmark, and be part of the next chapter of one of America’s oldest Black art institutions. RSVP here.
We are grateful to our partners Adler University, Diasporal Rhythms, CMB Catering, CAM B, and Audacity Creative. Their commitment makes this gathering possible.
There is still time to join us. Spaces are limited, so register on Eventbrite today. Bring your questions, your network, and your ambition. Chicago has always shaped culture, and on Friday we send that story out to the world.
