Pigmented Inaugural Art Fair | ANCHORED Pillars of Community Presented on the 1st Floor Curated by Rachel Gadson

Community organizers are essential to building generations of stable and sustainable practicing artists. In the art world, what we often see most are the artists, and their talented gifts on full display (quite naturally), yet what’s usually anchoring their talent is the foundation of community or family, strong support systems that help to keep their vessels afloat.

In this activation, we explore the immense contributions of community organizers who’ve helped set a firm foundation for the extensions of care that permeate through the art ecosystem. From formative organizations like The South Side Community Art Center, to the DuSable Museum, an institution that developed from that beginning work, and now the future, with organizations like ILA Creative Studio as an added resource for artists to gain the tools needed to grow in their practice.

We embrace the vast array of cultural workers, non-profits, activists/advocates to the arts ecosystem, and offer extreme gratitude for their work set forth now, for generations of artists to stand firmly on later.

Below are the selected pillars in our community, explore their stories
