A WALL THAT SPEAKS | CELEBRATING THE RICHARD HUNT MURAL
By LeeAnn Trotter
Chicago’s very first mural of iconic sculptor Richard Hunt - who grew up in Chicago- is now on display in Hyde Park at 54th and Lake Park! “A tribute to Richard Hunt was long overdue,” says artist Chris Devins.
Author & public historian, Michelle Duster, approached Devins about creating the mural of the late sculptor after Hunt finished a monument to honor her great grandmother, Ida B. Wells, which is located in Bronzeville.
Duster says, “This mural is stunning and really captured Richard Hunt’s warmth and strength in a classic timeless way. The work is a great addition to Hyde Park’s art portfolio and will become a fitting destination on tours of Richard’s work, life and legacy.”
Duster and Devins hosted an informal unveiling event Thursday (October 15th) which Cecilia Hunt, Richard Hunt’s daughter, along with Illinois State Senator Robert Peters, 13th District both attended.
“People of all ages will benefit from the example Richard Hunt has set, to live your life with purpose and devotion to the path you have set for yourself," offered Devins.
