Pigment International is proud to present Glory! Glory!, opening Friday, February 20 at the Zhou B Art Center from 7:00–10:00 PM. This powerful group exhibition brings together new and recent works by Candace Hunter, Nnaemeka Ekwelum, Reggie McFly, Paul Branton, Nate Austin, and Robert Lewis Clark—each responding to the American flag as symbol, structure, and story.
Through painting, mixed media, collage, and assemblage, the artists interrogate the flag’s promises and contradictions while exploring its emotional resonance within the Black American experience. The exhibition invites viewers to reconsider patriotism, protest, identity, and belonging through distinct visual languages and material innovation.
Anchoring the show is Robert Lewis Clark’s monumental 44, an 11-foot by 8-foot American flag composed of newspaper clippings commemorating the presidency of Barack Obama. The exhibition also includes artwork from students of the Gary Comer Youth Center and select works and ephemera from private collections, broadening the historical and cultural dialogue.
Each artist’s work is featured in this newsletter with an accompanying image, offering a preview of the bold visual statements on view.
Glory! Glory! continues through March 20 and will include two Pigment International Salon Talks examining symbolism, civic engagement, and the legacy of the Works Progress Administration in shaping the Black creative economy.
Advance registration is required via Eventbrite.
