WOSENE WORKE KOSROF AT PARK AVENUE ARMORY
New York's Skoto Gallery will present a solo booth of ten paintings by Wosene Worke Kosrof at the ADAA Fair, November 12–16, 2026, at the Park Avenue Armory. The show offers collectors, curators, and art lovers another chance to experience an artist whose visual language is unmistakably his own.
Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1950, Wosene earned his MFA from Howard University in 1980. Over decades, he has built a singular vocabulary from Amharic script, treating letters not as text to be read but as forms to be felt. Abstraction, saturated color, and the improvisational rhythms of jazz animate each composition, so that a canvas moves the way a solo does: searching, syncopated, alive.
The Skoto presentation continues a long relationship. The gallery has mounted multiple solo exhibitions of his work in New York, including Word: Future Tense and Words: You Are Always New, his fifth and sixth with the gallery.
Pigment readers may already know Wosene, who was profiled in Issue VI of Pigment Magazine and whose work is currently on view at Thelma Harris Gallery in Oakland. West Coast audiences can see him now; New York will soon have its turn.
At a moment when the continued recognition of artists of the African Diaspora matters deeply, Wosene's presence at one of the nation's most respected fairs is both a milestone and a reminder. His paintings do what the best abstraction does: they refuse to explain themselves, and in that refusal, they invite us closer. Ethiopian script, one of Africa's oldest written systems, becomes a living, breathing field of color and gesture, ancient and urgent at once. Collectors can encounter ten works in one focused setting. For everyone else, it is a chance to witness an artist whose decades-long commitment to language, heritage, and craft has earned lasting recognition.
