Knowhere Gallery's EXPO Chicago presentation yields a landmark acquisition for the Muskegon Museum of Art

A luminous work by D. Lammie-Hanson is making its permanent home in a distinguished private collection — and with it, carrying forward a commitment to elevating the voices of women-identifying artists working in figurative realism.

Agility to Surrender, a 14K gold drawing rendered in Goldpoint and Indigo acrylic on wood panel (34¼ × 26⅛ inches), has been acquired for The Bennett Collection through the Bennett Collection Acquisition Award. The work was exhibited at EXPO Chicago by Knowhere Gallery on Oak Bluffs, where it drew sustained attention for its meditative use of precious materials and its quietly commanding presence.

The Bennett Collection Acquisition Award was established to support the acquisition of work by women-identifying artists who paint women in the figurative realist tradition — a genre rich with historical weight and contemporary urgency. By directing acquisition funds toward living artists working within this lineage, the award affirms that figurative realism remains a vital, evolving form, and that the women depicted within it deserve collectors willing to invest in their visibility.

The acquired work will be placed on view at the Muskegon Museum of Art, extending access to Lammie-Hanson's practice beyond the art fair context and into lasting institutional dialogue. The partnership honors The Bennetts' sustained advocacy for women artists and reflects a shared belief that collecting is, at its core, an act of stewardship.

For Knowhere Gallery the acquisition signals the kind of meaningful outcome that art fairs, at their best, can produce: not just visibility, but permanence.
