SMITHSONIAN SECRETARY LONNIE BUNCH TO HEADLINE NEW MILWAUKEE SPEAKER SERIES

Bronzeville Center for the Arts launches “From The Ground Up” in partnership with the Milwaukee Art Museum and Chipstone Foundation

The Bronzeville Center for the Arts (BCA) has announced From The Ground Up, a new national speaker series bringing leaders who have built some of the world's most significant cultural institutions to Milwaukee for candid conversations about vision, resilience and legacy. Presented with the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Chipstone Foundation, the series positions BCA in dialogue with world-class institutions as it develops Milwaukee's future Black Arts and Culture Museum on a 3.4-acre site at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and North Avenue.



The series opens Wednesday, September 16, with Lonnie G. Bunch III — the 14th Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution and founding director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture — in a fireside conversation with BCA Executive Director Ra Joy at the Milwaukee Art Museum's Lubar Auditorium. The two will discuss Bunch's journey building a museum widely regarded as a national masterpiece, along with his book, A Fool's Errand: Building the National Museum of African American History and Culture in the Age of Bush, Obama and Trump.
